Humans and
Artificial Intelligence (CHAI)
CHAI is a $100K project funded by U-LINK at University of Miami, and began in June 2024.
Through work with school and college students as well as professional artists, the Concerts with Humans and Artificial Intelligence (CHAI) project addresses the increasing prevalence of AI tools in music creation, focusing on musicians’ perceptions and self-efficacy when collaborating with AI.
Acknowledging the increasing impact of AI on the music industry, the project aims to investigate the acceptability and influence of AI in music-making processes, considering its potential regulation.
CHAI showcase in April 2025
The project will conclude with a showcase concert on Saturday April 12th, 2025, 7.30 pm in Clarke Recital Hall at the Frost School of Music, University of Miami.
The show will feature live performances from artists involved in the project, as well as video footage revealing how humans have co-created music with artificial intelligence.

Song reaches final of 2024 International AI Song Contest
Six Frost students and two faculty members supported by CHAI co-created a song with AI that reached the final of the 2024 AI Song Contest.

Shalala MusicReach is a long-running initiative at the Frost School of Music, University of Miami, which aims to enrich the education of under-served youth in the Miami-Dade community.
In summer 2024, CHAI team members planned and delivered a series of sessions to give high-school students attending the MusicReach Summer Institute the opportunity to explore and discuss the latest technological developments in music AI.
